STRING QUARTET
Two birthdays in one. This work, which also exists in a version for string orchestra (YME-2019/002), was written to commemorate the end of WWI (100 years ago in 2019), and looks back on the first performance of the world's most famous Christmas carol, 'Silent Night' (200 years ago in 2019). That song also played an important role in the so-called Christmas truces during WWI: by singing this song, the soldiers came out of the trenches on Christmas night and fraternized. A piece about (the dark sides of) the night, but also about hope and the fact that music is able to forget and transcend the worst misery.
